Am I Overloading the Server? Understanding Resource Usage

Shared hosting is like an apartment building. Everyone gets their own room, but utilities are shared. If you use too much power, the fuse breaks (temporarily).

Reading the Graphs

In cPanel, click Resource Usage. You will see graphs for:

  • CPU Usage: Processing power. 100% means your site will slow down.
  • Physical Memory (RAM): Active processes. Hitting the limit causes "500/503 Errors".
  • Entry Processes (EP): Concurrent visitors executing PHP scripts.

What causes spikes?

Usually, it's not bad code—it's bots. A search engine trying to crawl 1,000 pages at once can max out your CPU. Bad plugins are the second most common culprit.
